Welcome to the Pacific NW Region Programming Contest! The Pacific NW Region is comprised of the following areas: Alaska, Hawaii, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, northern/central California and western Nevada. Because of the large geographic area of the region, the contest is held simultaneously at multiple sites: Northern California, Oregon, E. WA and Idaho, Western Washington, Canada, and Hawaii.

Announcements

  • UPDATED 3/3/24 @ 9:40am
    • Congratulations to UBSEA on winning the 2023 ICPC PacNW Regional!
    • Problem set Judge Data, Solutions, and Discussion now available on Results page
    • Scoreboard link

    • Sites for the Febuary 24 regional were:
    • Registration opened January 9, 2024
      • The cost per team was $125 due to increased costs for all items provided by the contest
        • Team fees cover t-shirts, food, drink, supplies, medals, and travel for administrators, systems crew, and judges as necessary
      • We will allow up to 6 teams per school. If more space is available, more teams per school will be permitted
      • NEW THIS YEAR: Each site will have a D1 or D2 designation that you can sign your teams up for. This means you no longer need to specify teams that will compete in D2 with a ‘D2’ at the start of their team name.
      • See the Registration page on this site for more information
      • We are a fully in person contest with a site structure similar to years before COVID. There will likely be accommodations for those schools that are unable to afford travel costs (we may be able to set such schools up as a micro-site like we did last February). We will follow ICPC rules for the North America Championship and World Finals for teams
        • There will be three people to one machine
        • Internet access will not be allowed
        • A contest image will be used
      • Feel free to email the contest at tcapaul@uw.edu with any questions, comments, or concerns that you have
    • There will be medals this year, as there were with last year’s contest.
      • Medals will be allocated based on our traditional site model with Hawaii, California, Oregon, British Columbia, and Washington being single sites. There will be medals for both D1 and D2 as in past years.
        • More specifically, there will be Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals for first, second, and third place in
          • D1 overall
          • D2 overall
          • D1 at each site
          • D2 at each site
        • Each team member will get a medal
        • Medals will be mailed to coaches for distribution to team members
    • There will be two divisions as in past years. D1 is the top division and teams can advance from D1 to the North America Championship (there will be no divisional championships as was done last year). D2 is for less experienced teams. When registering a team to compete in D2 be sure and choose the D2 site designation for your team. For more information on divisions please see the information provided below.
    • Division 1 (D1) is for teams that are VERY STRONG algorithmically.  The D1 problem set is difficult.  It is along the lines of a lite version of what you would see at World Finals.  Check the Results tab above and view D1 performance from years past.  Many teams have had a difficult time.
      • Division II (D2) is approachable for teams that have not completed the algorithm sequence at their school and/or have not competed in programming contests before.  Almost all problems in D2 can be solved using techniques at the CS1 and CS2 levels.  Most teams in this division have a great chance at solving many problems.  If a team does well in this division this year, that team should try D1 next year!  Participating in D2 will not count against your eligibility for World Finals in future years (other than the rules established by ICPC itself based on age/year in school — see the Contest Rules tab above for more information on the ICPC rules).  See the Registration tab above for more information.
    • Important note: While it is technically possible to advance from D2, it is very difficult. All teams from D1 that solve at least one problem will be ranked higher than all teams that compete in D2.
      • The following zip file contains three problems that serve as a baseline for competing in Division 1.  If a team cannot solve these three problems, that team should compete in Divsion 2.  The file contains input, output, and solutions to each problem along with a README that includes hints.  The file size is ~15MB.
      • Check the two division FAQ for more details
  • Pictures Page!
  • We will once again support Python (as well as C, C++, Kotlin, and Java).  We will support Python 3, following what World Finals supports.  Please see the Details tab for more information.
  • If you would like to be a future site host, please contact Tom Capaul tcapaul@uw.edu.  Costs of the contest (food, t-shirts, balloons, etc.) are covered by the PacNW region.  As a host school your teams participate for free.
